Job Summary:
The Animal Surgeon plays a pivotal role in providing exceptional surgical care to animals in need, ensuring their well-being and recovery. The Animal Surgeon collaborates closely with the veterinary team to diagnose, treat, and manage surgical cases, while also contributing to the overall growth and success of the veterinary practice.
Responsibilities:
- Perform surgical procedures on animals, including but not limited to soft tissue surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, and emergency surgeries.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments, including physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and consultations with clients to determine the appropriate surgical approach and ensure the animal's safety.
- Administer anesthesia and monitor the animal's vital signs during surgery, making necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth procedure.
- Operate advanced surgical equipment and technology, maintaining a sterile environment and following proper surgical techniques to minimize complications and promote successful outcomes.
- Assess post-operative conditions, monitor recovery, and provide appropriate follow-up care to ensure the animal's optimal healing and well-being.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop comprehensive treatment plans, including surgical procedures, pain management, and post-operative care, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in animal surgery, attending conferences, workshops, and continuing education programs to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including surgical documentation, anesthesia protocols, and post-operative care instructions, adhering to legal and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Board certification or eligibility for board certification in veterinary surgery (Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or equivalent).
- Proven experience as an Animal Surgeon, preferably in a veterinary hospital setting.
- Proficient in various surgical techniques, including soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, with a strong focus on safety and patient care.
- Extensive knowledge of anesthesia protocols, pain management, and post-operative care for animals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in critical situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with the veterinary team, clients, and referring veterinarians.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to protocols.
